Background in Swimming: Matt Targett spent the last couple of years swimming for his country of Australia and Auburn University in the United States.

Targett has accomplished tremendous international success at a very young age.  As a member of the 2008 Australian National Team, Matt won his first Olympic medal as the freestyle leg of the 400m medley relay, winning a silver. Matt won a second medal in Beijing as part of the 400m freestyle relay. Individually, Matt placed 7th in the finals of the 100m freestyle.

At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Matt showed he is a man of many strokes, winning a silver in the 50m butterfly, setting an Australian Record in the process.

Matt came to the United States in 2004 to swim and study at the University of Virginia. After helping lead the Cavaliers to their seventh consecutive ACC title, Matt transferred to Auburn University. While studying marketing, Matt swam his way to three individual NCAA national championships and helped lead the Tigers to their 2006, 2007 and 2009 team championships.  Targett has many years of elite level swimming left in his career.  The best is yet to come from Targett – just wait to see what he does at the London Games in 2012.
